Third Parties
Embed trusted banking in your platform
- At Investec, we value strong partnerships that help us deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.
- As an approved third party you can extend your platform with a secure API integration.
- Enable consent-backed access to banking data and capabilities within your platform.

Step 1: Confirm you are a Third Party
The key differences
| Third Party | Intermediary |
|---|---|
| You provide a service directly to your own clients | You act on behalf of Investec clients |
| The client connects their account themselves | You manage the client's financial activity |
| Formal third-party onboarding required | No formal third-party onboarding |
| Used within your platform for many clients | Used for your business operations |
Step 2: Confirm your integration method (option 1)
- If your business wants to connect to Investec using our APIs, there are two ways to do this.
- The right option depends on how the integration will be used and therefore in what capacity you are acting.
Option 1: Third-Party Platform Integration (3-Legged OAuth / Consent Model)
(You are acting as a Third Party)
When this applies
Choose this option if:
- You operate a platform or software solution
- Your platform serves many clients (not only Investec clients)
- Each client must give permission for your platform to connect to their Investec account
In this model, you are acting as a third party. Your clients use your platform directly, and they individually consent to connect their Investec account.
What this means
- Your integration must use a secure consent process, where each client approves access
- Clients connect their Investec account to your platform themselves
- A formal third-party onboarding process with Investec is required.
Examples
- A payment platform that enables users to make payments from their Investec account
- An accounting software provider that imports transaction history into its system
- A financial management app that aggregates banking data
When this applies
Choose this option if:
- You or your business is an Investec client
- You are connecting to Investec to operate as yourself or on behalf of your own Investec clients
- The integration will only be used for yourself or your business operations.
In this model, you are acting as yourself or as an intermediary, meaning you manage financial services on behalf of Investec clients.
What this means
- You build the integration yourself (or appoint a technology partner to do so)
- You use the integration only for yourself or for your business operations
- There is no formal third-party onboarding process required with Investec
Examples
- A forex outsourcing firm that gets quotes and executes trades for its Investec clients
- A medical bureau that automates reconciliation on behalf of its Investec clients
- A treasury outsourcer managing payments or cash flow for Investec clients
- An individual that wants to access their transaction history to do monthly budgeting
Step 3: Start the onboarding process
To become a third party provider, you will be required to undergo an internal vetting process. You must have a registered company and be able to provide financials.

The process is thorough and typically takes 6–8 weeks if you are quick in submitting your responses.
